This page will provide links to all posts related to games I am designing.
Geekway + Anytown = More Changes - Last weekend, I took Anytown to Geekway to the West. On that Friday evening, there was a prototype demo session.
New Design 2 - To Space! - Enough of the teaser from my previous post. Here's the information on my newest game design.
Anytown - Game Overview and a Look Ahead - Anytown: At the Corner of No and Where is a worker placement, card
drafting, resource management game for 2-6 players ages 12+. The game
length is 40-70 minutes.
Game Design - What has happened in the last 7 months? - So I have been negligent on updating this space now for too long. Here's a recap of what has happened since May
New Game Design - Playtesting at a Convention - This past weekend was Geekway to the West
- a 4-day board game convention in St. Louis. It had been a couple
years since I attended, but it was just as fun as in years' past. The
difference between this year and previous years, however, was that I
brought a game design to playtest. I have a lot to learn about bringing
a game to playtest at a convention.
New Game Design - Playtesting - After a few months, I was finally able to get a playtest of my game!
There were many changes made since the last time it was playtested, so I
will attempt to hit most of those changes as I describe how the
playtest went.
New Game Design - More Changes
New Game Design - Ready for another Test - I now have version 0.0.6 of my game ready for another test. I made all
of the changes that I had mentioned in the previous post (word
clarifications and some more player interaction).
New Game Design - Playtest #3 - On Friday evening, my game had its 3rd playtest. Unfortunately, due to
time constraints, we only played 2 of the 3 Years. However, over the
course of the test, I still received lots of good information. I have a
few minor tweaks to make (mostly card wordings), and a couple moderate
changes/additions to consider (mostly to get a bit more player
interaction).
New Game Design - Ready for Playtest Again - I have updated everything to be ready for a potential playtest
tomorrow! I even went so far as to create actual tokens and player
boards instead of just using paper. Maybe I've gone a little too far,
but I really think the board design and tokens are pretty close to being
done.
New Game Design Update - Many Changes - So as I stated in my last design post, I have been in the process of
making some major changes to the card design. I now believe that I have
achieved an acceptable product to begin testing. Rather than keep you
all waiting, let's dive right in to the changes.
New Game Design - Taking a Break from Playtesting - So it's been 2 months since the last playtest of my game. I am not
worried about it, though, since there have been a lot of new games
(Kickstarter and Christmas gifts) to play. Recently, I have had a
couple new ideas for my game that will also deal with a couple issues
that I had.
New Design - Changes Progress - At this point, I have made many minor changes:
1) Changed some building abilities. Changes include decreasing some
gold to food conversions, replacing the upgrade ability of the
Blacksmith to allow upgrades when building new buildings, and some
synergy tweaks.
2) Minor changes to a few event cards.
New Design - Playtest #2 - So the second playtest of the game was completed on Friday. I had made
many changes since version 0.0.1, and I believe that most of them were
very successful.
The event deck certainly helped by added a surprise at various points in
the game. This kept all of us on our toes, especially since we pretty
much had all of the bad events, and only 1 or 2 of the good ones.
New Design - Quick Update - A quick update on my game:
Here are the changes that have been made so far:
New Game - First Play Test - So the first play test of my game occurred this past Saturday. Since I
had not even tried a run through by myself or with my wife, I was very
nervous. I had no clue how balanced everything was or if any of my
crazy ideas even worked together.
New Game Overview - Okay, so it's time to talk a little bit about the game I am designing.
The idea is that players have been provided land by the government in
the west (during the Wild West time frame) to build a new
settlement/town. Over the course of the next 3 years, players are
constructing buildings and bringing new people to their towns to create
the best town in the area.
New Game Design - So for those that do not know the type of board games that interest me, I
am a big fan an euro-style board games. My favorite sub-type of euros
are worker placement games. However, one of my favorite board games is 7
Wonders, which uses card drafting as its main feature, and no worker
placement.
